Online Appraisers must possess the following skills:
In depth knowledge of items in chosen category(s)
Knowledge of current market value of items. This requires regular contact with trade shows, on-line auctions, conventional auctions, contact with collectors/dealers etc.
Computer literacy
Ability to provide rapid turn-around time for on-line appraisals
Professional, honest and courteous in all dealings
Must possess proper English writing skills and vocabulary for descriptive text.
How the online appraisal process works:
The process begins with the customer's submission of an item for appraisal. The customer chooses a category for their item and is prompted to provide information regarding their item. This may or may not include images (see Images below ).
The appraisal is then sent to the appropriate appraiser for the category chosen
The appraiser is then notified of an item awaiting their appraisal
The appraiser may then login to our site and go to their Personal Page. Here they may access all information regarding the item but will not be able to access any of the customer's personal information.
At this point the appraiser now has three choices.
Payment to Appraisers
Payment to appraisers is done on a monthly basis. Payment is not made for incomplete or unsuccessful appraisals. All funds are in USD drawn on a bank in the United States. Checks will be paid to the name and address of the appraiser as registered with the site. Click here to see the appraiser fee schedule
Images
Although we recommend that a client submit images with their appraisal, we do not require images as a condition. Online appraisers must have a broad enough depth of knowledge to give their expert opinion as to the value of an item based upon textual information submitted.
Information Submitted
sports-appraisals.com has developed a system which asks customers pertinent questions based upon the category of the items they are submitting. For example, a customer submitting a pocket watch for appraisal will be asked pointed questions about their pocket watch and not simply about watches or items in general. An Online appraiser in conjunction with sports-appraisals.com can tailor the questions within their particular category to best reflect questions which should be asked in that category.
Categories
The entire website is driven by categories. From the appraisal customers and the appraisers, to the business partners, everyone who registers on the site is defining their experience through the category(s) that they choose. Appraisers have the ability to suggest categories and sub categories to continuously improve the selection on the website.
Conflict of Interest
In order to maintain impartiality, Online appraisers may not sign-up to become buyers on our website. They may however, register as various other types of business partners or affiliates.
Determining Value
Online appraisers will take many factors into account when determining the value of an item. Click here to read our guidelines for determining value.
Meet the Appraiser
Within the "Meet the Appraiser" section of the website, customers are able to view information supplied to us by online appraisers including their picture, affiliations, and credentials. Customers will not have access to appraiser's email address or any personal contact information.
Turnaround Time
We strive to provide a maximum 72 hr. turnaround time on appraisals. Turnaround time is calculated from the time that the appraisal has been submitted or from the time that the appraisal has been re-submitted with additional information requested.
Online appraisers are requested to maintain a 48 hr. turnaround time.
Online appraisers have the ability to go to their Profile Page on the site and make themselves inactive while they are on vacation or otherwise unavailable.
